Privacy policy
Effective date: October 26, 2026
In short. Wanderreel keeps your places and trips on your phone. To find the places in a reel, what you share is sent to our server, which asks an AI model to read it and Google Maps to check the places. An account is optional; with one, the trips you put in it are stored on our server so they reach your other phones and the people you share them with. There are no ads, no analytics and no tracking, and we do not sell your data.
Who we are
Wanderreel is made by The Digital Doctor LLC (United States). For anything about your data, write to privacy@wanderreel.app.
What stays on your phone
The places you review and keep, your trips, plans, dates and notes, copies of the screenshots and videos you share to Wanderreel, and your settings. They are not sent anywhere unless one of the actions below sends them. Android may include the app's database in your phone's own encrypted backup to your Google account; your sign-in is never included.
What is sent, and why
- Reading a reel or post. When you share a link, it is sent to our server together with any text you shared with it. The server fetches the public post (its caption, author, cover image and, for photo posts, its pictures) from Instagram, TikTok or YouTube. For some Instagram reels, your phone downloads the reel's video from Instagram, takes still frames from it, deletes the video, and sends the frames.
- Screenshots and screen recordings. When you share pictures or a video, your phone sends the pictures, or still frames taken from the video, to our server.
- Planning a trip. The trip's places (names, categories, cities, locations and what the post said about them) are sent to our server to build a day-by-day plan.
- Finding a place on the map, or a better photo. The words you type, or the place's name and location, are sent to our server.
Our server passes what it needs to these services, which act for us:
- Anthropic (the Claude AI model) reads the post's text and pictures and writes plans. Anthropic's terms for this kind of use do not let it train its models on what we send.
- Google Maps Platform (Places) checks each place and supplies its location, address, rating and photos. Wanderreel uses Google Maps features, and Google's use of data is covered by the Google Privacy Policy.
- Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons supply photos when Google has none.
- Supabase hosts our server and database (in the United States).
What was found in a link is cached for up to 30 days, kept by link rather than by person, so the same reel is read once. Pictures you share are not stored on the server once they have been read. To limit abuse, the server keeps a one-way hash of your IP address for up to 2 days. Supabase's request logs, which include IP addresses, and our own log lines, which record the place names found but not who asked, are kept for a few days.
If you sign in (optional)
- Signing in with Google gives us your Google account's email address, name and profile photo. They are stored with your account and shown to the people you share a trip with.
- Trips you keep in your account (their places, notes, plan and dates) are stored on our server so they reach your other phones. If you invite someone, they see and, if you allow it, change that trip, and you see what they add.
- If you buy Wanderreel Plus, Google Play takes the payment; we never see your card. Google Play gives us a purchase token, which our server checks with Google to learn whether your subscription is active and when it ends. We keep the token, the subscription's state and end date, and a code made from your account id that Google Play stores with the purchase so we can tell whose it is.
- When you read a post, make a plan or search the map while signed in, we count it against your monthly allowance (the number of reads, plans and searches this month, not what they were about).
Pictures you choose
When you choose screenshots or a screen recording in the app, or share them to it, Wanderreel reads only the ones you chose, through Android's photo picker (it needs no access to your gallery). They are sent to our server to find the places in them, as described above. Only if you turn on "Suggest recent screenshots" (a build option; off by default) does the app look, on your phone, for screenshots from the last two days; it sends nothing until you tap Read.
What your phone loads directly
Place photos load straight from Google and Wikimedia, and map images from Google Maps. Like any website, these services see your phone's IP address when it asks them for a picture.
Notifications
Notifications are made on your phone. There is no push service, and nothing about them is sent to us.
How long we keep it, and deleting it
- Your account and the trips in it are kept until you delete them. Settings → Account → Delete my account deletes your account at once. Trips you own leave the account for everyone in them (they keep their own copies), and places you added to other people's trips stay there without your name. You can also ask us by email; see the account deletion page.
- Settings → Delete everything saved removes your places and trips from your phone. Uninstalling the app removes everything on the phone.
- The link cache expires after 30 days and the rate-limit records after 2 days. Monthly use counts and purchase records are deleted with your account.
Your rights
You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to how we use it, by writing to privacy@wanderreel.app. Depending on where you live you may also complain to your data protection authority.
Children
Wanderreel is not meant for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version is posted here with a new effective date, and the app's What's new says so.
